Advice from our Lawyers
The most important thing that you can do to assist your attorney in winning your case is to keep your attorney fully informed of all of your cases information. This includes your current address, phone number, email address and details about your medical providers.
The process of applying for and ultimately winning your SSD and SSI case is usually lengthy and can last for many months. You will be receiving documentation from your attorney’s office as well as from the Social Security office and your most current information is vital in keeping you up to date on the progress of your case. There may also be times when your attorney needs to get in touch with you as soon as possible and having your most recent address and phone number is extremely important.
It is also important to advise your attorney of the past medical treatment that you have received including the names of all prior doctors, hospitals, or any other facilities where you may have been treated for a medical condition that you are claiming prevents you from working. Your attorney will be responsible for requesting those documents and for making sure that they are sent off to the proper Social Security personnel for review.
It is also important to keep your attorney updated regarding the medical treatment you are currently receiving. Our clients often change doctors or are sent off to referral physicians or are sent out for tests such as scans, x-rays and MRIs. It is important to let your attorney know of every physician and facility where you are currently treating, new tests that you have had and any pending surgeries or procedures you will be having so that those documents can be requested immediately.
Finally, it is also very important to let your attorney know if you experience a worsening of your condition or are treated for any new medical conditions that you experience during the process. Call your attorney to give them an explanation of any new diagnosis so that all of the medical documents showing the new or worsening condition are obtained.
