Why does DDS take so Long?
The
state disability determination services (DDS)
offices that review agency level disability claims
face a large workload with limited staff resources.
Wait times over the past several years have got
worse, disability claims are taking longer to be
decided at both the DDS and hearing levels. For
people who are awarded benefits they may be entitled
to backpay for a portion or even all of the time
they waited for their decision to be made.
