Life Expectancy
1. Life expectancy at birth is a statistical measurement that projects how a
society will change over time. It is the statistically determined number of
years, at birth, that a person is expected to live. Currently, life expectancy
for men in the US is 74.8 years and for women it is 80.1 years.
2. Life expectancy at 65 measures the number of years a person is expected to
live once they reach the age of 65. It is different from life expectancy at
birth, because by that age many life-threatening challenges have passed. At
present, men who reach the age of 65 in this country can expect to live until
the age of 81.6 years of age, and women to the age of 84.5.
